Work Less, Get More Done
Cal Newport's Slow Productivity argues that doing fewer things, working at a natural pace, and obsessing over quality can make you more productive, with less work. I think he's mostly right!

I've been in awe of piano players since i was a child. Always had a keyboard and went through phases of learning a few pieces of music to memory, then life gets in the way, and the keyboard gets put away for a few months. I've finally decided to get it out again now, and my children are interested in it and love hitting the keys, too. I've started to learn to read music and learn new pieces that are at my level rather than attempting something way too hard like I usually do, and im having a lot of fun with it I have to admit. My biggest fear is hand independence, I can play simple stuff with both hands, but I'll be damned if i can ever get them to play together, lol.

Hard pieces might not be as big as a waste as it seems. If you're thrown head first into the fire, you quickly learn a lot of things even if you never actually complete that task. You'll also be a lot more motivated to try your best if you are trying to learn something you care about. I'm thinking of my friend who could play part of Hot For Teacher on guitar. In terms of difficulty, that's 10/10 right there. He was so proud that he could do that.

does anyone know aikido very well? it's like a dance when performed for the public, but, I regret to inform you that, in reality, martial arts are extremely dangerous; Aikido - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org › wiki › Aikido According to the founder's philosophy, the primary goal in the practice of aikido is to overcome oneself instead of cultivating violence or aggressiveness. Aikido is a Japanese martial art that was developed by Morihei Ueshiba in the early 20th century. The purpose of Aikido is not to promote aggression or to defeat an opponent through sheer force, but rather to blend with an attacker's movements and redirect their energy to neutralize the attack. The philosophy behind Aikido emphasizes harmony and non-violence. Practitioners are taught to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Aikido techniques typically involve using the attacker's momentum and energy against them, rather than meeting force with force. In addition to self-defense, Aikido is often practiced for physical fitness, mental discipline, and personal development. Practitioners aim to cultivate a sense of balance, flexibility, and centeredness both on and off the mat. Aikido training can also help individuals develop focus, concentration, and a sense of calm under pressure. Overall, the purpose of Aikido extends beyond mere self-defense techniques to encompass personal growth, self-awareness, and the promotion of peace and harmony in both physical and mental aspects of life. BJJ is very good for coping with the unfortunate "reality" of violence caused by the pain of misunderstanding or a lack of understanding and/or helpful, caring resources, frustration, injustice, anger and hate - my approach to mma is "don't put yourself at risk" and "stay home (in your fortress or ideally comfy abode or happy home)" and only take calculated risks when exploring the world at large - especially the beauty and wonder of "Mother Nature" and the engineering miracles of human endeavor of focus on learning (both through active experience aka play) and gentle discipline of healthy routines and, unfortunately, sometimes the travesties of error or poverty of experience (lack of active learning); Also, educate yourself about basic simple healthcare to the degree you can manage to attain and understand how Creator created the human body (or beloved fellow creature's body) and temporary interventions (such as naturally sourced "tried and true" medicines for coping with pain or infection) to orchestrate healthy or healing bodies - our bodies are the temples of our souls, spirits, and social-emotional-intellectual-physical development. And if you are a woman, or a beginner, don't let your enemies know you practice martial arts.....Because beware: Et tu, Brutus? (Shakes-a-Speare's "Julius Caesar") and Hamlet's Ophelia hid her tears in a river and drowned....the English Canon is so much inspired by Biblical references and discussions....that is something I know very little about, in spite of my interest in the HERE NOW and PRESENT Be careful, be safe, take care and be considerate!

What if I told you that you actually did it the right way and the advice you are giving is shit / and that I have never seen this much progress in an adult after 4 years on an instrument ? And you were definitely sight reading and learning theory from day one as you tried to play a piece from sheet music.... so you are contradicting. you followed most of your own advice just from your story. you were probably using a metronome too. Okay I went and looked at your videos. you were playing a ragtime tune at 90 days. fuck off. seriously dude. and you were sight reading it all from the start. you also did easy pieces - from your own videos. If you tell the truth you don't have to remember what you said before.

Many good points and I agree with them. The thing is that ebooks are often cheaper so if you're on a budget or you don't want to spend 1000$ on book every year not knowing if you'll like them or not, ebooks will make you save a lot of money. At the end of the day, what matter is to actually read!

My son started piano at age 12, which for many hardcore classical musicians is considered "late". Seven years later, he plays all genres from classical to jazz, etc.. He has performed with rock groups, orchestras and chamber ensembles. Public performance is a wonderful teacher. People tell him he must be a "musical genius" to play so well in so few years, he reminds them "It's not the years, but the hours."
